Does registering on the Opt Out Registry stop the receipt of unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls?
No, however once your registration information has been approved by the NCC and you have set up your login information, you will have access to "Pre-Emptive Block' which will allow you to select a marketer and category of sales campaign and enable a pre-emptive block or “flag” indicating the opting out of receiving of sales information from the selected source and category of campaign.
What happens if my contact number and address details change?
It’s important that you update changes in your contact information to ensure you continue to benefit from the service. This can be done by updating your details on your online profile or contacting our call centre agents for assistance.
Is it possible to register more than one contact number?
Yes, once you click on the option to register, enter your first contact number, then select 'add another number' , enter the second number and continue this process. Please only register active contact numbers.
How long will it take for sales calls to stop?
Your phone number should show up on the Registry the next day, but it can take up to 30 days for sales calls to stop.
Will my registration expire?
After Eevery 5 years, you will receive a message or email requesting you to confirm if you wish to remain on the register and if your details are still valid. If this is confirmed, your registration and enabled pre-emptive blocks will remain in place. if this is not confirmed, your registration details will be deactivated.
Will the Registry stop all unwanted calls?
No. The Opt-Out Registry stops sales calls from real/registered companies. The Registry is a list that tells telemarketers what numbers not to call. The Opt Out Registry and the NCC does not and cannot block calls. The Registry can’t stop calls from scammers who ignore the Registry.
Can a company still call me with a sales pitch?
Companies can call you if you’ve recently done business with them, or if you’ve given them written permission to call. But if you ask them not to call you, they have to stop. Be sure to write down the date you asked them to stop.
What’s the penalty for companies that illegally call numbers on the Registry?
Companies that illegally call numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry or place an illegal robocall can currently be fined up to R??? per call.
Are mobile phones, or cell phones, treated differently than home phones on the Opt Out Registry?
No. You register a mobile phone number the same way you do any other personal number. There’s no separate list or database for mobile phones.
Someone called and offered to put my name on the Registry. Should I let them?
No. It’s free and easy to register yourself at HTTPS://OPTOUT.THENCC.ORG.ZA or by calling 0124287000 To have one of the NCC's agents register your information on your behalf.
I moved and got a new phone number. Do I need to register the new number?
